Yes, transferring the domain name does not provide your account with membership status. Domain names transferred to us can have unlimited DNS records and web redirects etc.
Membership will allow you to manage unlimited domain names without any limitation even if they are not transferred to us. You are also entitled to priority support as well as service discounts. For more information on membership benefits, you may refer to https://www.dynu.com/en-US/Membership

is this still the case?
I have two domains with you and over the weekend was adding some additional A and AAAA records and the control panel told me I was only allowed 4, even though at the time I had more than that, I could not add anymore. I paid for the membership anyway as I burn up 2 records for each hostname as I want IPv4 and IPv6 and needed the additional entries for testing.
Just wondering . . . .

So yes, transferring the domain name does not provide you membership status. But you can add unlimited DNS records for the domain name once the transfer completes.
